A Transformative Experience

I recently experienced a remarkable journey during a spiritual retreat at Pluscarden Abbey in Elgin. This peaceful sanctuary organised by Eric from Mary’s Well in Nairn and the Ignatian Spirituality Centre in Glasgow. It offered an opportunity to practice prayer in the Ignatian tradition. Surrounded by nature's beauty, I found not only tranquility but also a way to engage my imagination in unexpected ways.

A Sanctuary for the Soul

Pluscarden Abbey is an extraordinary venue nestled among vibrant greenery and calming landscapes. This serene atmosphere invites visitors to reflect and contemplate their inner selves. During my walk of the grounds, a sense of peace enveloped me.

Embracing the Ignatian Way

The retreat involved learning the Ignatian method of prayer, which focuses on personal reflection. This method encouraged me to dive deeper into my prayer life. During the guided sessions, I learned to bring to life the scriptures I was reading.

Combining quiet meditation with guided readings from scriptures, strengthened my understanding of the Ignatian approach.

Making New Connections

The retreat nurtured a sense of community among participants. Sharing our journeys and experiences helped forge friendships. Conversations led to new discoveries, with each person bringing their unique perspectives.

Reflecting on my Pilgrimage

My time at Pluscarden Abbey became more than a retreat—it transformed into a creative pilgrimage that nourished both my body and soul. It helped that I wasn’t doing the cooking!

The blend of prayer, reflection, and creativity lifted my spirit. I returned home with a renewed appreciation of praying the Liturgy of the Hours and downloaded a couple of apps to keep me on track.

As you embark on your own journeys, think about keeping a journal to doodle in. Try out the Ignatian way, and you might find beautiful connections within yourself and with others. Remember, every page in your journal is a chance to unveil the sacred.
